We are proud to share with you the Ndaroini AA from the Nyeri region of Kenya. Nyeri grows some of our favourite coffees year after year and this one is no exception. The Ndaroini (pronounced DAHR-oh-EE-knee) washing station is part of the Gikanda Farmers’ Cooperative Society. It consists of roughly 850 farmers, 40% of which are female. Gikanda is known across Kenya for both the high quality coffee it produces and the high prices paid to its farmers. Not only are they able to sell their coffee for more because of its high quality, they pay a higher proportion of their gross income to their farmers. In the past 4 years, approximately 85% of the Society’s gross revenue was paid out to its members. This is above the 80% recommended by the Kenyan Ministry of Cooperative Development. The consistently high quality comes from the use of demonstration farms for their members, regular field training, and efficient processing times.
