Karamikui is grown on the foothills surrounding Mount Kenya in the Kirinyaga county. 500 smallholder farmers deliver their harvested cherries by bike or ox-driven cart to a central mill. Once there, the farmers meticulously sort the cherries to separate any that are not at optimal ripeness. Freshwater is pumped to the mill from the nearby Kii river to assist in the pulping process. Once pulped the coffee is dried in the sun on raised beds.
