Kapeu is the name that Luis Pedro Zelaya has given to the coffees he purchases from small-holder farmers that are situated around the Acatenango volcano. The farmers bring their freshly harvested cherries to Luis Perdo’s Bella Vista mill in Antigua, where they are checked for quality, then weighed. Farmers are paid up front for their harvests, and their cherries are then moved to the mill to get depulped and mechanically washed.

Bella Vista has been experimenting with drying coffee on raised beds in greenhouses, and this is the first year that they have done it at scale. It’s easier to manage the temperature conditions of the coffee in a greenhouse, and because the baskets of coffee can be stacked vertically, there is space savings too! The result is coffee that holds more of its character for longer.

Note:On June 3rd of 2018, the Fuego volcano, which is located about 3 km south of Acatenango, erupted. The blast from the eruption sent ash throughout the southwest of Guatemala, blanketing many surrounding towns and farms. Over 100 people were killed during the eruption and ensuing pyroclastic flows and lahars. The regions where coffee grows best are often located near volcanoes, and coffee farmers face risks to grow the coffee we enjoy. We’re incredibly thankful for the team at Bella Vista and for the work done by Anacafe to assist the people who have been so hurt by this disaster

I already know I love Kapeu, it is one of my favourite coffees from Transcend. I live outside of YEG so purchasing it online is so practical. Was in my coffee cup within 2 days of ordering.

Of the eight-odd Transcend coffees I've tried, I would say this is one of the bolder cups on offer. Although it doesn't fit my flavour profile, I can easily recognize the quality of the brew and would highly recommend it to anyone that wants something with a bit of punch, yet still smooth.

Still one of my favorites. Love this time of year, sitting on the front porch in the early morning sipping my Kapeu.

A very enjoyable cup. Fruit flavours are pronounced but difficult to narrow down but hey, don't get me wrong, it's ridiculously delicious. The aftertaste left leaves a lingering delicious flavour. Like your post coffee buzz, it's something you really look forward to.
