Jonny Alvarado and his brothers are growing some of the best coffees in the Chirripo region of Costa Rica. We’ve been buying coffee from his mill for the last 2 years, but have only bought from his farm el Aguacate, which is around 1650- 1799 meters above sea level. This coffee has been reliably sweet, which is a testament to Jonny’s work on the farm and the mill. When Josh made his first visit to Jonny, they went up to a new farm that was being planted at about 2000 meters. The new trees were taking a little longer to produce a harvestable amount of coffee, but the potential for amazing flavours was there. This past year, Josh was able to taste some of the coffee from this plot, which Jonny has called Sheri Bata. While it still has the hallmark sweetness of careful harvesting and sorting, there is a new complex citrus quality that is indicative of the extreme elevation.
