Near Guatemala's Northern border with Mexico is the Department of Huehuetenango. Relatively inaccessible, the mountainous areas are home to some of the most complex and delicious coffees that Guatemala has to offer. Coffee farmers from around the town of San Pedro Necta grow Bourbon and Caturra, which they wash and dry themselves on their own patios or even the roofs of their houses. The high heat, and angling of the surrounding mountains gives the coffee from this area a unique complexity, driven by a brilliant acidity. This coffee, which is blended from 5 producers in the region, is named Canoguitas after a village in the Zacapa department of Guatemala.
