This delightful washed processed coffee comes to us from Alemo Bukato’s washing station in the Banko Gutiti kabele of the Kochere woreda. About 650 small-holder farmers deliver coffee to this washing station, each having an average of about one hectare of land.
Alemo’s team at the mill take active steps to ensure that their coffees are consistently excellent. They have set up collection sites in villages that are a little farther away where coffee cherries are selected for ripeness before being delivered to the mill by truck. This means that farmers don’t need to take their harvest very far, which is quite a heavy burden. The coffees are produced at the peak of harvest season, and dry on the washing station’s raised beds.
